Queenstown Golf Course
Played Sunday, March 1, 2020.
Queenstown Golf Course is located just out of town and is a nice flat course. It has a number of par-3s in the closing holes.
While the course is flat the fairways are extremely mossy and wet when Tim and I played as Summer drew to a close.
There was no run at all. The conditions played like the middle of Winter. Balls plugged in the fairways and there was little chance of employing a successful bump and run tactic around the greens – which really affected my game more than Tim’s.
The course really highlighted the difference in both of our games and his precise iron shots yielded better results.
My short game really suffered and I had trouble adapting. Drives and iron play was okay but my shots really racked up around the greens.
While the greens were mostly very poor, having large flat weeds on many and some sort of fungal moss on most, they were of good size, cut reasonably short and essentially flat. After the round we both realised that neither of us had more than two putts on any green.
I had a tap-in par on the final hole and, to be honest (and a little harsh), I was sort of glad it had come to an end.
The green fees were only $10, among the cheapest in the State.
